The 2015 ECOSOC Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Ms. Helene Namisi receives her Award from Commr. Otiende Amollo, the Chairperson of the Commission of Administrative Justice "Office of the Ombudsman" (courtesy of Amnesty International Kenya)

--Nominate your Pro Bono Lawyer of 2016--

Kenya has a progressive constitution and a strong Bill of Rights, but access to justice unfortunately can be difficult, especially for those from disadvantaged backgrounds and overlooked groups. Particularly when it comes to violations of social and economic rights, those who are most at risk are also those who struggle most to get their voices heard: women, youth, indigenous communities, etc.

Bridging the gap between victims and justice are those lawyers who selflessly stand up for the rights of others, seeking justice pro bono for those who would otherwise not have been heard. At Peace Brigades International Kenya, we celebrate those who defend the social and economic human rights of others. We are happy to join with our friends at Amnesty International Kenya, Law Society of Kenya and EACHRights in presenting the annual ECOSOC Award for Pro Bono Lawyers.

The deadline for nominations is 30 November 2016 at 5PM, the award ceremony will be held on 8 December 2016 (location TBA).
